The Third ILDC Colloquium, part of COST Action 0602 on International Law in Domestic Courts, is organized by the Amsterdam Center for International Law of the University of Amsterdam and the School of Law of the University of Glasgow.

The Third ILDC Colloquium will address the function of domestic courts as agents for the development of international law. While the conceptual problems of judicial law-making have been assessed in some detail, particularly with respect to international courts and tribunals, much further work is necessary to assess the practical impact that judicial decisions can have on the substance of international law, and the factors that determine whether or not they influence the law. The assumption is that these questions arise acutely with respect to domestic courts and tribunals. The Third ILDC Colloquium will aim to give a detailed account of domestic court influence on international law, and to help clarify the general problem of how to situate domestic courts within the international law-making process.
